Why does the room belong in the design?

Traditional hi-fi has long focused on choosing and matching components: sources, amplifiers and loudspeakers. How the system will interact with the room often comes later.

Yet the loudspeaker is both the end of the signal chain and the beginning of the acoustic chain. Both sides deserve equal attention. Dutch & Dutch brings both into the design from the start.

In the bass, room resonances reinforce some notes and weaken others. Higher up, the level, timing, direction and tonal character of reflections influence what you hear. Strong reflections from nearby walls can colour voices and instruments and blur the stereo image. Other reflected sound contributes to a sense of space.
